Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the lessons like?
Lessons are individual 30 minute lessons, however, I block off 45 min for all preschool lessons to allow for some extra motor movement songs/games to get "wiggles out" and to talk with parents. Weekly lessons work best to maximize early learning and skill building,
however, I can accommodate varying schedules.
The method book series I use is WunderKeys Piano for Preschoolers and WunderKeys Primer Piano. The WunderKeys books offer a child friendly and developmentally appropriate program for young piano students through teaching
foundational musical skills in fun and interactive lessons.
. We will spend time both at the piano and doing
off-the-bench activities, including math and music games.
Lessons are held in my home My address is 593 S Macon Ct, Aurora 80012. I am centrally located in Aurora bordering on East Denver, about 5 min from I25 turn off from either Mississippi or Alameda Ave.
Parents are always welcome to stay for lessons. Being a licensed home preschool, my home is child friendly, siblings are welcome to play in family room or outside with parent supervision.

How should we practice at home?
At-home practice is very important to both learning and finger strengthening.
However, practice should always be FUN!. Check your child's assignment book to know which lesson to work on and choose several of the areas to practice. Don't feel your child needs to do all areas everyday. Just follow your child's interest and attention span.
Try to do finger strengthening activities as often as possible, which can be rhythm rhymes or any fine motor activity.
**Please refer to the fine motor idea link for ideas.**
Encourage your child to spend time exploring the keys and "composing" their own songs. This unstructured piano time provides the opportunity for your child to investigate all the sounds and feel of the keys while building finger strength.
Please no banging, Polite Fingers only!
At your first lesson, your child will receive a Practice Punch Card, please use a hole punch or mark the card for each day your child practices. Once card is full, its time to choose a prize from the prize box!
We do not have a piano, will a keyboard work?
If you do not have a piano, a keyboard is fine, especially for beginners.
How long does it take to complete the book series?
In general it takes about a school year to complete the three book series for Preschool Piano
Each book series equals one session with ten lessons in each session
**Please see the Preschool - Kindergarten link for further book description**

Once students complete the three Preschool Piano books, they will be ready for the Primer book series, in which they will begin to learn to read music on the staff.
The Primer three book series also takes a school year to complete, Each book series equals one session with ten lessons in each session
**Please see the Kindergarten - 2nd link for further book description**
What is the next step after completion of the Primer series?
Once students complete the Primer series, they are generally ready to Graduate to "traditional" piano lessons. At this point I can provide you with referrals to wonderful piano teachers who work well with beginning piano students.
